It is approximately an hour drive away from mecca. The beautiful views of its nature and its wonderful weather recommend it to be the capital of summer in saudi arabia. The population of taif as estimated by the department of statistics is around 885,000 people with 82% saudis. Its area is roughly 175 square kilometers.
