A branch of linguistics where the primary concern is the application of linguistic theories, methods and findings to the elucidation of language problems which have arisen in other areas of experience
The importance of AL lies in the significant role it has in solving language-related problems.

Clinical Linguistics is the application of the theories, methods, and
findings of linguistics (including Phonetics) to the study of those
situations where all language handicaps are diagnosed and treated

Speech Disorders
Speech disorders are the disorders, in which the speech
mechanisms like soft palate, tongue, lips, etc are the locus of delay

Definitions of Lexicography
) the editing, compiling, writing or making of a dictionary

) Practical lexicography
The art or craft of compiling, writing and editing dictionaries

Dictionary history - tracing the traditions of a type of dictionary****** in a particular country or language

Stylistics is a branch of linguistics which applies the theory and methodology of modern linguistics to the study of style.

Phonology is the study of the rules for the organization of the sound systems of a language

Graphology is the study of the writing system of a language

Literary stylistics: concentrating on the unique features of various literary works,such as poem, novel, prose, drama

General stylistics: concentrating on the general features of various types of language use, including literary discourses and other practical styles

Language planning: deliberate efforts to influence the behavior of others with respect to the acquisition, structure, or functional allocation of their language codes

Language policy: official policies resulting from language planning and imposed in a deliberate attempt to influence language behavior by means of official codes

Status Planning: the recognition by a national government of the importance or position of one language in relation to others

Acquisition Planning: planning directed toward increasing the number of users – speakers, writers, listeners, readers – of a language

Corpus planning: activities such as coining new terms, reforming spelling and adopting a new script;
the creation of new forms,

Consecutive (or Successive) bilingual:
Learning one language after already knowing another

Simultaneous bilingual:
Learning two languages as "first languages".

Infant bilingual acquisiton involves the child learning two languages almost simultaneously from the outset.

Adolescent bilingual acquisition refers to the acquisiton of a second language after puberty.

Child bilingual acquisiton may start quite early in life, but involves the successive acquisition of two languages, as do adolescent and adult bilingualism.

Dominant bilingual:
someone with greater proficiency in one of his or her languages and uses it significantly more than the other language.


Folk bilingual:
Individuals who develop second language capacity under circumstances that are not often of their own choosing, and in conditions where the society does not value their native language.

Elite bilingual:
Individuals who choose to have a bilingual home, often in order to enhance social status.
