افتراضي the analysis of Meeting at Night by Robert Browning

مساء الخير
انا اليوم جايبه لكم قصيدة Meeting at Naight مترجمه بالعربي مع الشرح وكل شي يخص هذي القصيده

Meeting At Night by Robert Browning

The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each

Meeting at Night by Robert Browning
Outline
Thesis: The imagery in, “Meeting at Night,” is something that the reader can practical see, touch, smell, and hear; the tone and theme of the poem are two very important fixtures that are evident to the reader and are of importance for the poem.

“Meeting at Night” by Robert Browning
Robert Browning started writing poetry at a very early age and was one of the most famous Victorian poets of his time. He displays his incredible talent throughout all of his works. His poem “Meeting at Night” is one of the many poems that showcases his unique style. The form of “Meeting at Night” is a lyric; Browning expresses his feelings in this poem which is obviously love or being in love. The poem is about two lovers meeting in the night; the speaker in the poem describes the journey he takes to visit his lover. The imagery, tone, and theme of “Meeting at Night” are three very important factors that are evident to the reader and are of importance for the poem.
Although the poem consists of only two stanzas, there are many distinct examples of imagery throughout the poem. Browning’s use of imagery is very important in order for the reader to visualize the speaker on his journey. The first stanza describes the beginning of the speaker’s journey; “The gray sea and the long black land; And the yellow half-moon large and low; And the startled little waves that leap in fiery ringlets from their sleep [. . .]” (ll. 1-4). The gray sea, long black land, yellow half-moon, and the little waves are examples of sight because the reader can definitely visualize these things. The speaker goes on to say, “As I gain the cove with pushing prow, and quench its speed i’ the slushy sand (ll. 5-6). The speaker is obviously traveling in a boat and has described how he came to land. He first mentions the black land and the yellow half-moon which is describing that all he sees is darkness but the yellow moon is his guiding light to his destination. When he mentions the cove, the prow, and the slushing sand it is evident that he is indeed on a boat because a prow is a part of a boat or ship and the cove is the beginning of a bay that divides a body of water from the land. The reader can also visualize and, in a sense, feel the slushy sand that he describes.
In the second stanza, the speaker describes the second half of his journey. “Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach [. . .]” (l. 4); the speaker is now walking on a beach and has described the smell of it which the reader can sense. “Three fields to cross till a farm appears, A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch and blue spurt of a lighted match, [. . .]” (ll. 7-10); when the speaker says that there are only three more fields to cross until he sees a farm, the reader can visualize him crossing fields and seeing a farm. Lines nine and ten contains examples of hearing and sight; the reader can sense the speaker tapping on the window pane and see the lighted match. The last line, line twelve, contains an example of the sense of hearing; “Than the two hearts beating each to each,” the reader can, finally, imagine the two lovers embracing each other and can hear their excited hearts beating.
The tone of the poem is obviously one of excitement. The reader gets a feeling of excitement as the speaker describes his journey in every step of the way until he finally meets with his lover. The last two lines of the poem, “And a voice less loud, through its joys and fears, Than the two hearts beating each to each,” definitely embraces the excitement. It is obvious that they are both excited when they finally meet with each other. The reader, without a doubt, shares the excitement because this is a poem that anyone who has experienced love can relate to.
The theme of the poem is that love overpowers all and nothing can interfere with it. Clearly, the speaker takes a very long journey to see his lover; he travels by boat, walks across a beach and fields, and finally passes a farm until he reaches his lover. However, his long journey doesn’t, in anyway, immobilize him; he is very much determined and anxious to get to his final destination. This poem depicts anyone who is in love or has ever been in love because love will practically make a person do anything.

In conclusion, “Meeting at Night” is a very beautiful love poem that anyone can relate to it one way or another. Browning’s distinct use of imagery plays an important role in the poem because it brings forth the tone. The theme is also important because without understanding the theme the reader will in no way relate to the poem, especially, since it is a love poem. It is a universal love poem that can reach out to all.

Theme:
  • Love is something that needs a hassle and sacrificial to be gotten.
  • A success will be reached if someone has a big motivation and works hard pass trough many challenges and restrictions.
e: analysis of “MEETING AT NIGHT” in the point of view of Imagery

Imagery: when something that can be sensed by one of the five senses is shown by language.
Imagery is divided to: Visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory and tactile.
The poem “MEETING AT NIGHT” is describing the lover’s journey toward his beloved. In the poem there is no words like “love” or any word that could show that it is a love poem but with the use of imagery which describe the nature around the beloved as he walk toward his beloved is very romantic in away that the reader can think only about love. The most dominant imagery is visual, the Imageries in this poem are:
Gray sea: visual imagery, sea that is lighted by the moon it is the beginning of his journey toward his beloved and also gray is a symbol of passion and sexual attraction, (mostly in the middle ages).
Long black land: visual imagery, where he is heading to, and where his beloved live, it is described as long and black maybe it is not but he feels like that because of his longing to his beloved.
Yellow half moon large and low: visual imagery, that is why the sea is gray also walking in the light of the moon gives a romantic touch as well as the deion of the moon as close to the land gives some feeling of ecstasy.
Startled little waves: visual imagery, he is so in love that he feels the waves around him are eager to wake his beloved like him.
Fiery ringlets: visual imagery, her anxious hair, the beloved is mentioned by part of her and the poet tells us her that she is missing him also.
Pushing prow: tactile and visual imagery, we have kind of paradox, although the boat he is riding is eager to get to the shore the beloved feels him slowing down as he gets to comes closer to the shore.
Slushy sand: tactile imagery, sign that he arrived to shore and part of the journey had ended, the tactile imagery used her gives more relief because it gives sense of closeness more than the other kinds of imageries.
A mile of warm sea-scented beach: tactile and visual and olfactory imagery, very rich sentence that emphasize kind of storm of emotions, he may be close but he still feel far of his beloved. The beach is sea scented because he comes from the sea and he left his scent in the last time he was here which was not long ago because the sand is still warm.
“Three fields to cross tell farm appears” his walk toward the farm where his beloved lives, it shows how far she is and he is walking toward her.
A tap at the pane: auditory imagery, he is knocking on his beloved’s window and it gives kind of dramatic tone.
Quick sharp scratch: tactile imagery, he is nervous that is part of the dramatic tone.
Blue spurt of a lighted match: visual imagery, the beloved is awake and she is lighting a candle, here starts the feeling of relief, as the meeting is getting closer.
Voice less loud: auditory imagery, the beloved is whispering but her voice is full of joy mixed with fear sign that they are meeting in secret.
Two hearts beating: tactile and auditory imagery, the consummation of their love, the thing they two were looking for, and the happy end of a long journey.

The rhyme scheme in meeting at night is (abccbadedded
