تكلم الدكتور عن مسرحية هاملت وركز على الاتي
There are many problems that face Denmark. The first one is the death of the king(old Hamlet) which weaken the power of the government. Second, Fortinbras ( the young prince of Norway) prepares to attack Denmark to take revenge for his father .
- The professor said that the student must focus on the first speech of character because the reader will get the first impression of character from his/her first speech.
- The main characters of Hamlet are Hamlet, Claudius and Gertrude. He says also that Polonius , Ophelia and Laertes are important characters.
- The professor focuses on the act 1 scene 2 page 1673- 1677 and he concludes that:
- The Claudius's speech reflects that Claudius is a good speaker and politician who wants to gain allies. In his speech, Claudius uses contradictory words for example:
1- yet so far hath discretion fought with nature . line 5
2- with mirth in funeral and eith dirge in marriage. line 12
3- in equal scale weighing delight and dole . line 13
Claudius also tries to contain Hamlet and wants him to consider Claudius as his father by using words like my son .
In contrast, Hamlet's response to Claudius reflects that Hamlet does not like Claudius and he will not obey him. Hamlet also uses many words that have more than one meaning such as common. In Hamlet's first soliloquy indicates that Hamlet is depressed and melancholy . He also blame his mother because she marries directly after his good father death and he concludes that " frailty , thy name is woman" line 146 page 1676. Hamlet praises his father in the dialogue with Horatio ( Hamlet's close friend) when he says " he was a man ... lines 186-187".
