هاودي كاو غيرلز !!!
اللي انا فاهمة هو كالتالي:
1. contrastive distribution is when two or more phonemes CAN occure in the same DIRECT environment.. which would mean that they are not allophones of the same phoneme..
exception>>>>>
if the tow or more phonemes were just DIFFERENT PRONUNCIATIONS for one phoneme and they DO NOT preduce different lexical items(i.e. different words)
for example
¬mat... ma?....mat
they don't change the word's meaning; therefore, they are in FREE VARIATION
2. free variation:
different pronunciations for the same allophone
explained above.
3. complementary distribution:
it is when two or more phones CAN NOT occure in the same envirounment .. which would mean that they are ALLOPHONES FOR THE SAME PHONEME
for example:
/box/iz
/ring/z
z and iz can not be at the same envirounment,, meaning, z can't come after x but iz can
so they are allophones for the same phoneme s for the plural mark,,
p.s
all phonemes are allophones
every single phoneme/allophone is also called a phone
wish it was helpful,, and sorry for da missed up explaination!!!
