4/why do the characters refrain from speaking about it explicitly ?

اتوقع الي يقصده السؤال انو ليه الشخصيات في القصة تتجنب الحديث عن العملية بشكل صريح وتصرح ماهي هذه العملية بالتحديد

امم الجواب برأيي المتواضع انو :

Because they are not married couple , so their relationship is forbidden ,hence this operation must be in secretly



5/ how the different kinds of observations add to the effect of the story ?


I think that in every time they observe something ,they indicate to something that they are afraid or cant say to each other ,so they express it as observation of the surrounding




6/ see the phrase "white elephant " what is the significance of this phrase in the story's title ?

It's make an stimulated element for the reader to read the story and find out what does it mean of the hills like white elephant
