Lady Sneerweel falls in love with Charles and she wants to marry him. She discovers an obstacle in front of her plan that Charls is in love with Maria. Thus, she cooperates with his brother, Joseph, and they plotting to alienate Maria from Charles by putting out rumors of an affair between Charles and Sir peter`s new young wife. She uses her servant Snake to convey the rumors. But the latter reveals the truth because that Rowley has paid him a greater fee to betray Lady Sneerwell.

Sir Oliver returns to England and attempts to test his nephews’ character without revealing his identity. Sir Oliver assumes the identity of a moneylender, Mr. Premium, to test Charles’s loyalty by the help of Moses, a Jewish moneylender. They go to Charles`s house and Moses introduces the newmoneylender , Premium , to Charles. Charles offers the pictures of his family in sell to Sir Oliver. Sir Oliver buys all the portraits except his own, which Charles will not sell. He has a fondness for his uncle whom he has not seen in many years and refuses to part with the portrait. Sir Oliver is charmed and forgives Charles`s faults. Sir Oliver also disguise by the identity of Old Stanley, a poor relation, to test Joseph. He goes to Joseph and ask him for help, but Joseph claims that he does not have money because of his brother extravagancy. He also denies all the money that Sir Oliver has sent to him. At that point, Sir Oliver decides that Charles is his heir.
