المحاضرة الخامسة لمادة النحو Lane 334 Syntax بدأ الدكتور بكتابة التالي على السبورة:
1) Copula: in linguistics, copula is a word used to link a subject of sentence with the predicate:
a) Subject complement. A copula is often verb, or a verb like word. It is also called a copulative, copular or linking verb. Such verbs are non-action verbs. For example; Ali is a student.
2) Transitive verbs: in syntax, a transitive verb is the verb that requires both a direct subject, and one or more objects. For example; push, hate, give, etc.
3) Mono- transitive verbs: verbs that require exactly one object. For example; kill, read, etc.
4) Di- transitive verbs: verbs that are to take two objects, an Od and an Oi. For example; give, send call, etc.
5) Ambi- transitive verbs: verbs that can be used in a transitive or an intransitive way. For example; he reads, he read a book.
6) Intransitive verbs: verbs that take zero object; don't require an object. For example; die, smile, laugh, etc.
7) Complex transitive: some verbs are followed by two phrase, but their order of function is different from Di-transitive verbs. Complex transitive (vc) verbs, like subject of a copula verbs, can be followed by Adjp.
Example; My grandpa call teenagers {running idiots.}
Teenagers are called running idiots by my grandpa.
