Point of view : the perspective from which a story is told. A story may be told in
either the first person or the third person. A first-person observer tells the story but is
not involved in it. A first-person participant both tells and is involved in the story. A
naive first-person storyteller, such as a child, is frequently called the innocent eye.
Third-person perspectives are classified according to the amount of information the
narrator possesses regarding the characters' inner thoughts. Third-person omniscience
implies that the narrative voice knows all the characters' thoughts. If the narrative
voice comments on the story or characters, the point of view is editorial omniscience.
If the voice has access to the thoughts of only one or a few of the characters, the point
of view is third-person limited. Some third-person narratives have an unreliable
narrator. If the narrative voice does not have access to any characters' thoughts and
does not comment on the action of the story, but simply records the facts, the point of
