ملخص المحاضرات الخمسة كالتالي ..

Text: any text given stretch of speech or writing assumed to make a coherent whole , and can be oral or written or sign .

Source Text ST : the text requiring translation , the text you are translate .

Target Text TT : the text which is translation of the ST .

Source Language SL : is the language that the ST written in

Target Language TL : the language of the TT

The word translation has two meaning :
1- The text that u produce
2- The science of translation

Strategy :
is a decision you make in your mind to do while translating.
it's a game plane

Strategic decisions:
the first set of reasoned decision taken by the translator

Decisions of detail :
the translation as process can be broken down into two types of activity :
1- understanding an ST
2- formulating a TT

-Comprehension and interpretation stage of translation involves a perfectly everyday activity that required a standard command of the language use .

# Translation as Process :

Inter-semiotic :
the translation between two sign languages

Intralingual :
translating using one language

Gist translation
you only give the important details

Translation proper
is a translation between two languages

BY "Situation" we mean a combination of three elements :
1- Linguistic context
2-Non linguistic circumstances
3- the experiential baggage of the participants

Exegetic translation :
can be shorter than ST but most of the time it should be LONGER than ST

Interlingual :
Translation between two different languages (similar to proper translation )

Semantic repetition :
English language deal with gist , to avoid semantic repetition
Arabic language prefers semantic repetition .

Idiomatic or Idiomazing
Prioritizing TL naturalness over faithfulness to ST detail.

#TRANSLATION AS PRODUCT

Interlinear:
Doesn't respect the TL grammar
not good to use
is only employed when the purpose is to consider ST structure

Literal
is taken as if straight from the dictionary
respect the TL grammar
can be regarded as the practical extreme of SL bias

Communicative :
Doesn't care about the words its cares about MASSAGE .
an expression standard to the situation is used
can be more into TL bias

Free translation
There is maximum TL bias
when there is global or no one to one correspondence betweeeen the textual of ST and TT

Denotative meaning :
It is correct translation .
It's the literal meaning
can be visualized as circles as they can represent intersection between categories
has got semantic content
Overtones found in synonyms such as sky-pilot adder and viper
e.g. المعزبة -زوجة- أم العيال :)

Connotative meaning :
-Attitudinal meaning : has to do with your attitude towards something .

The scientist who propounded the use of formed dynamic equivalent is
Nida

Translation by ommition:
is the obvious form of translation loss is when something which occurs in ST is simply omitted in TT

Translation by adding :
it happens when we feel that there is Loss .
we use brackets [ ] when adding .

Cultural transposition:
Any degree of CT involves the choice of features indigenous to the TL and the target culture in preference to features with their roots in the source culture .

Exoticism :
odd translation

Claque:
is an expression that consists of TL words and respects TL syntax but unidiomatic .

Cultural Transplantation :
The wholsale transplanting of the entire setting of the ST, resulting in the entire text being rewritten in an indigenous target culture setting.
is a good example for قيس وليلى

Cultural Borrowing :
transfer an ST expression verbatim

Compensation:
you compensate poor an aspect or some meaning later on not at the very sentence of the translation .
try to convey the meaning in another place.

Compensation types :
1- Compensation in kind = when change adjective with verb.
