Ex: Two jehovah’s witnesses won the case against the school because saluting the flag was against their religious beliefs. main point #2: Individuals must be allowed to practice religion as they wish. supporting information: supreme court decision: Students can not be penalized at school for religious reasons. Ex’s: (1) a student who misses a test for a religious holy day can take the exam later. (2) 1972: Amish people exempted from school attendance law in wisconsin. concluding sentence: in both supreme court cases, the court respected individuals’ rights to act according to their beliefs and required the state to practice tolerance of diverse religions.
