1.Describe and evaluate what Pfizer is doing with its Pfizer Works.
Allows employees to shift tedious and time-consuming tasks with the click of single button " magic button " on their computer desktop. Team put the report for a complex project researching strategic together in a month, something that would have taken six months to do alone.
2.We've defined mangers as those individuals in an organization who direct and oversee the activities of other people in the organization. What challenges might there be for managers when those " people " are halfway around the world?
Keeping connected with the employees, and not being able to monitor them, lack of organization and planning.
How might the four management functions be useful in dealing with those challenges?
The four management functions would allow managers to keep a firm grasp on their employees even though they are halfway around the world. Planning would allow the managers to set goals and establish strategies that would prevent some of the challenges with outsourced employees. Organizing would enable mangers to delegate what needs to be done. Leading would allow the managers coordinate the activities of the employees. And, Controlling would allow the managers to police the work of the outsourced employees to make sure that they are carried out as asked.
What skills would managers need to be able to function effectively in this type of arrangement?
Managers would need to have following skills; conceptual, interpersonal skills, technical, and political skills.
3.Do you think that Pfizer Works would work for someone who's a first-line manager? Why or why not?
I do not believe that the Pfizer strategy would be able to work for a first-line manager. Due to his positions and his task, that is responsibility for directing the day to day activities of Nonmanagerial employees.
4.Do you think this arrangement would work for other types of organizations? Why or why not? What types of organizations might it also work for?
It is a strong strategy for any large scale specialized organization that has high and middle management employees with special skills and qualifications.
