Complex Sentences (p 37-9):
is a sentence with one independent clause (IC) and one (or more) dependent clause (DC).
For example: I was not happy because he took my laptop.
‘I was not happy’ is the IC, and ‘because he took my laptop’ is the DC.
We can also say: Because he took my laptop, I was not happy. In this case we need a comma after the DC.
Note that most TOPIC SENTENCES are complex.
