I'm gonaa talk about sickle cell diseas (Hb S disease
=sickle cell anemia

Definition of sickle anemia: It's a genatic disorder caused by point mutation in the B-globin gene

a molecule of Hb S contains 2 normal α-globin chains & tow mutant B-globin chains in which Glutamate at position 6 is replaced by Valine


SICKLE CELL DISEASE is homozygous recessive disorder characterized
episodes of crisis+chronic hemolytic anemia & increased risk of infection

on the other hand life span of red blood cells of a patient with Hb s disease is about 20 days compared 120 days for normal erythrocyte


hetrozygotes contain both HbS & HbA because they have on normal & one sickle cell gene ( they don't show clinical symptoms & can have a normal life )


heterozygote advantage : they are less susceptible to malaria because their RBCs have short life span So the parasite of malaria can not complete its life cycle


Treatment

hydration

analegesic

antibiotic

blood transfusion

hydroxyurea
