My Hometown , Jeddah
The historical city " Jeddah" is situated in Saudi Arabia, on the coast of the Red Sea. The history of Jeddah can be traced back to 2,500 years ago when it was formed as a small fishing village. The city became prominent only in 647 A.D when the fishing village was transformed into a port by the Muslim caliph Othman ibn Affan. The port was made for the benefit of the Hajj pilgrims to reach the holy city of Mecca. Jeddah, for centuries remained main city for the transportation of the Hajj pilgrims. The main city of the historic Hejaz Province was Jeddah.
Jeddah has a population of about 3.5 million people , so it has the problem of congestion and hustle and bustle . For this reason , the government is thinking of constructing trains and metro and bird taxi .
Like many big city , Jeddah has problem with air pollution . The Ministry of Environment is going to start to solve this problem by planting a lots of trees and building factories outside of the city and reduction of car exhaust . In addition , expansion in health and education services .
Residents of Jeddah are called Jeddans. Jeddah has 24 sister cities, which are selected based on economic, cultural and political criteria
Jeddah will be the most beautiful city in the Middle East by establishing towers , cleaning the beaches , repairing the roads and parks , expansion of the port and airport in Jeddah . But these amendments take many years .
