Writing a Story
The Worst Day I have Ever Had
Probably the worst day I have ever had was when I went to the zoo with my ten-year-old nephew. We had left home very early to get to the zoo before the crowds. There we were at 8 o'clock in the morning waiting for the bus. I was carrying a bag with our packed lunches and Jack had his camera with him. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and the birds were singing.
It had rained heavily the night before and just as we were standing on the side of the road a big lorry went past and splashed water all over me. Jack thought it was funny and immediately took a photo of me but my trousers were socked. Having got on the bus, everyone looked at us because of my trousers and Jack, who was doing monkey imitations. Then the bus driver got angry when Jack did his hyena imitation. I had to tell him that Jack was only practicing for his part in the school play, The Jungle Book.
When we eventually got into the zoo, Jack wanted to see the sea lions so we went there to watch feeding time. We were watching when, all of a sudden, a gust of wind blew my cap off. I jumped up to catch it but at the same time dropped the packed lunches into the enclosure. The sea lions caught the paper bags and all of the people there burst out laughing at the sight of them eating out sardine sandwiches. However, as soon as the keeper saw the sandwiches, he called us over and told us that I was completely irresponsible.
After leaving the sea lions, we went to the reptile house to look at the snakes. I saw Jack taking a plastic snake out of his pocket but , before I could do anything it was on the floor and people were screaming 'snake!'. To stop them, I shouted ' Don't worry! It's not real. It's just a joke!' Unfortunately, one of the keepers heard this and told us to go with him to see the director of the zoo. I started to get the feeling that nothing could go right.
After all, everything worked out okay. I managed to explain everything to the director and at last I started to feel a bit more relaxed. In the end, Jack did his animal imitations and the director was so impressed that he invited all of the children in Jack's class for a free zoo trip. Now, when I think back to that day, I can't stop laughing at myself.
